Just in case anybody's wondering, I'm taking a break from art in general for a while, so I won't be around much or posting much (if anything.)  Consider this a hiatus until further notice.

Also, sorry about any comments or suchwhat I haven't replied to.

...is now the official name of Torin and Kage's story.  Work on the website has begun.  

I've also just updated the info journal, if you wanna take a look-sie at the changes I've made.  Mostly just rewording, clarifying, and cleaning some things up.

WELCOME!

Here is some basic information on my project, Waking Soul: Coma, the main characters Torin and Kage, and their story.  
In the future, I plan to have a website for this story, most likely told through a combination of manga, written word, and images (and hopefully, some animation.)

It's a story about a lot of things.  It's about everyday life in high school and beyond, awkward situations, being queer, abuse and teen suicide, growing up, learning about oneself, learning to forgive, learning to trust, and learning to love.

THE BEGINNING OF THE STORY:

It begins in a small town in the northeastern US, in a public high school.  The senior class is buzzing with excitement in their last year of high school.  
It's Torin Zalman's first day in a new place, and while his easygoing nature makes it easy to join the flow of the student body, his attention is caught by one classmate in particular: Kage Kirkwood.
For Kage, it's just another year.  He's got bigger problems in his life to worry about besides high school.  But now this new kid wants to be friends, and won't take "no" for an answer.  What the hell is wrong with this guy?!



MAIN CHARACTERS:

Torin Alexis Zalman

~Physical Description:  Emerald-green eyes, poofy medium-length brown hair, athletic build.  Slightly feminine features with Irish/European ancestry.  Tends to dress casually; likes to roll up his sleeves a lot, loves his blue high-tops.

~Personality:  Friendly, protective, optimistic, empathetic. Creative, expressive, aware, open-minded. Has a well-developed sense of humor and isn't afraid to laugh at himself.  Articulate, but often speaks very bluntly. Values honesty.  Enthusiastic but easy-going.  His temper has a long fuse and is short-lived. 'Carpe diem' is his mantra.  Doesn't like to give up when his mind's set on something. Puts others before himself, sometimes too much. Tends to wear his heart on his sleeve.

~Background:  His mother passed away when he was seven years old, and he doesn't get along with his father very well.  Lives with his uncle Mike.

~Orientation: Isn't sure...

~Occupation(s):  High school senior, part-time office janitor.

~Interests:  Psychology & Sociology, music, books and literature, film, storytelling.

~Physical Description:  Grey eyes, black hair almost always over his face, thin build- somewhat underweight.  Visible Asian ancestry.  Tends to dress plainly, in darker neutral colors and clothing which covers a lot of skin.  Tries not to stand out too much.

~Personality:  Self-possessed, aloof, reserved.  Intelligent, calculating, observant, sensitive.  Often inexpressive.  Creative, but doesn't like people to know it.  Can be charismatic, but is very good at driving people away with biting sarcasm and quiet hostility.  Distrustful, perfectionistic, slightly neurotic.  Frustrated and disgusted, especially with himself.  Self-destructive at times.  Lonely, but in denial.  His trust is hard-won, but once earned, he is very loyal.  When his guard is down, seems easily embarrassed or flustered, and can also be intensely caring and passionate.

~Background:  His mother is deceased, and he holds strong contempt for his father, who has, by mutual decision, no active parental role in Kage's life.  He lived with his maternal aunt most of his childhood, but emancipated himself shortly before the beginning of the story.  He now rents a small house, where he lives alone.

~Name Info:
*Note: Kage despises his father, and therefore the name his father gave him.  He introduces himself and writes his name as 'Kage.'  His surname was previously Tanaka, but on his seventeenth birthday, he legally changed it to Kirkwood, the middle name his mother had given him.*

MINOR CHARACTERS:

Jessica Desmond
A bright and headstrong red-haired girl, Jess is Torin's cousin, and her friends are his first friends at his new school.

Travis Wachowski
A well-known, but generally disliked, football player and bully.  He has a problem with Kage in particular, since Kage doesn't react to his antics.  His father is a police officer and a very familiar (if not particularly welcome) face to the high school Principal.

Stepheni Eizenberg
Torin's best friend from his previous school, affectionately called "Jaws."  She has already graduated and is pursuing a career in tattoo artistry.  A lesbian herself, Stepheni has been a major source of support to Torin.

Jennifer Morrison
Popular, pretty, kind, overachieving classmate of Torin and Kage.  Though she would appear to have little in common with him, she seeks Kage's help on a personal issue, and the two become unlikely friends.

Mike Jennings
Torin's uncle on his mother's side, Mike drives freight trucks for a living, and is away from home for weeks at a time.  He and Torin are very close.

Gracie and Timmy Small
Two children whom Torin regularly babysits.  The Smalls are good friends of Torin and his uncle Mike.  Gracie is seven and Timmy is four.

Busy, busy.  Just coming out of a bit of an art slump, and have some projects in the works, some being of the moneymaking variety.  I'm also working for a major overhaul/improvement in my artistic skills, so might be doing more exercises and practice things and out-of-my-usual-box things.  Don't know how much of it will wind up here.  Here be the key points of mah master plan:
